Where Dan Saban Stands on Important
Law Enforcement Issues
The next Maricopa County Sheriff must do two important things — restore the credibility of the office and reclaim its organizational effectiveness. Dan Saban is a proven law enforcement leader extremely capable of effectively and efficiently leading the operations of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Once elected, he will immediately focus on issues that matter most to Maricopa County citizens’ quality of life.
Resource Management
Dan Saban will deliver a plan to eliminate taxpayer waste and reorganize the office to improve public safety services that serve and protect. He will start by eliminating Arpaio’s 24 appointed top level executive staff positions by 16 for an organization which only needs eight. Dan Saban will move executive staff from the plush Wells Fargo building to existing jail offices. He will use the savings from the reduction of appointed executive level personnel and the Wells Fargo lease to recruit and retain qualified Detention Officers. He is dedicated to reviewing existing field operations and resource management uses and will reallocate manpower and equipment to improve response times for emergency calls.
Jail Operations
The cost of incarcerating jail inmates in Maricopa County has risen sharply. Too many inmates are coming back. Dan Saban will realign the jail administrative system, reduce costs and create workable programs to reduce repeat offenders in the system. Dan Saban will reallocate manpower resources at the MCSO to ensure the backlog of the 78,000 criminal warrants and the 41,000 felony warrants are actively served, which will improve community safety and put real criminals in jail.
Protecting Constitutional Rights
Good police work should promote the security of civil rights. The duty of the Sheriff's Office is to provide police services, enforce laws and execute court orders. It's also mandated to manage the custody of inmates serving time for misdemeanors and those who are innocent until proven guilty. Dan Saban will preserve the American Justice System in Maricopa County by ensuring rights are protected.
Immigration Enforcement
Super-charged emotions on the topic of illegal immigration enforcement are putting public safety at risk and creating an environment where the civil liberties of U.S. Citizens may be infringed upon. Law enforcement is neither emotional, nor political. Effective law enforcement solutions must be based on fact and must secure your rights. As a result, the best way to manage illegal immigrant enforcement is to focus on taking criminal aliens off the streets by working with Immigration Customs and Enforcement, the U.S. Marshals Service and placing immigration holds on in-custody arrests.
