Constitutional Rights
Excerpt from Speech to Latino Peace Officers' Association
Our founding fathers created the Constitution as the law of the land.
With the Bill of Rights, they obligated all generations to protect individual freedoms.
As professional police officers, we have taken that obligation to a higher calling. We are bound by duty to protect the rights of all individuals, yet we have the authority to take away those rights in an instant.
We must be committed to protecting the people’s rights as we serve our communities.
We must be cautious in carrying out our powers to enforce the law.
Respecting our fellow citizens is foremost, ensuring dignity for everyone is our creed.
Our badge is our symbol of that obligation.
